I always apply the “today” date to my notes, with the purpose of remembering “when” I typed the note – not with the purpose of fixing a “due date” which is the title of the date column (which is anyway useful if I want to use my notes as todo lists).
That said, I think that adding the automatic insertion date of the note (as a new column – keeping the due date as it is) could be a very useful feature.

Will you have a web clipper functionality; like a firefox addin

  • Hi Dave, no, sorry, web clipping is not high on our to-do list.

We focus on use cases that require security/encryption, while web clipping does not seem to benefit from encryption much: clipped information is public on the web in the first place, so there is no need to secure it; and a person’s browsing history is very easy to track, so by encrypting your clips you will not substantially increase your privacy on the web.

Please let us know if we miss something here and there is a good reason to encrypt web clips.

How can I tell whether my notes are stored encrypted? Is there an indicator on the note or web page?

Also, when I click on the page info box in my URL address block (my browser is Firefox) , it tells me that my connection is not encrypted…even though I am using https.

    Can you explain?

    thanks

  • Hi Allen,

All notes are stored encrypted – there is no need for a special indicator.

If you want to use an encrypted connection, please use this URL: https://threetags.appspot.com/

Thank you for the quick response.
BTW, you have a great product. I look forward to your future enhancements.

A note taking app with no text search function!?!

  • A note taking app with no text search function!?!

Search is indeed high on our to-do list. However, it is impossible to implement text search in a pure web app with client-side encryption. We plan to add search to the iPhone app and to Gears-enabled web clients.

Hi. Thanks for the app, I am making good use of it. Suggested improvements:

1- have a theme/skin that is dark. I know you support setting font color and background color, but I mean an overall theme, e.g. black bkgrnd + dark orange font color. Your blue/gray choice isn’t what I was looking for.

2- support things such as mailto: (if there is a way currently, please explain how).

    Thanks again. Mark

Could you considering adding the creation date of the note as a new column (keeping the due date column as it is now)?

(Sorry for repeating a question that perhaps was not so clear).

  • Hi Riccardo,

we will show created and modified dates in the next major update. This won’t happen for another couple of months, though.

Are there any plans for a Firefox extension to allow you to send highlighted text to your Three Tags account?

  • Hi Danny, as mentioned above, web clipping is not high on our to-do list.

    Hi,
    I love the iPhone app.
Is there a way to delete a tag I have created?

  • Hi Matt,

Is there a way to delete a tag I have created?

When a tag is no longer used (no longer assigned to any of your notes) it will not show up in the filter as well. If there are notes that use the tag, the tag will show.

In the web app, you can select a tag on the left, select all notes on the right, and click “remove tags” button.

I have been trying out several different online note programs over the past few months. I am now more or less down to two, and ThreeTags is one of them. The one big feature ThreeTags is missing IMO is search. Is there any plans for implementing any kind of global search feature? If there is when might this feature be released? If there isn’t, would you consider it?

This is a fantastic product. You’re the only company that has really thought about all the issues it takes to make cloud note-taking really work. I have a few questions:

    1) Are there any plans for an iPad specific app?
    2) Note-taking seems to default to double space. It seems to only be single space for me if I choose bullets. Is there any other way to make note-taking single space?
    3) Are there any plans of logging out users once they have logged in somewhere else? I often forget to log out at work and would like to be able to “kick” myself off the work computer as soon as I log in at home or through my phone. I believe that is the more secure preference.
    4) I’m writing several stories. Will Three Tags warn me if any one note is over the maximum size limit of 25 pages?
    4) Can we count on your company to be around for the next few years actively maintaining/improving the product? This is actually the most important question I have. I’m about to invest *alot* of energy/creativity by using it as a primary writing tool. I’d like to be able to really depend on the program.

Thank you so much for what you have created.

    Sincerely,
    Randy

  • Hi Randy,

Thank you for your feedback! Our answers below.

    1. There are currently no specific plans re: iPad. This may change, of course, but right now a “native” iPad app seems unlikely.

    2. In Firefox you can use shift-enter to insert a “single space” line break. Other browsers may have other key combinations.

    3. This can be added as an option in user preferences. We will think about it.

    4. ThreeTags currently does not check the size of notes “on the fly” because it can take a couple of seconds to precisely determine the size of a large note in some browsers. Most users won’t appreciate occasional browser freezes. As browsers evolve, we will definitely add the feature once it becomes “non-intrusive”.

    5. We definitely plan “to be around”, of course. However, our primary focus this year is to add features that we can actually start charging our users for, rather than making our existing (free) service much much better. We will definitely continue maintaining the existing service.

    Hopefully, this answers your questions.

    Best regards,
    ThreeTags

I have a couple thought on the new version of TreeTags that you are going to be charging for.

First off, I think you will do a LOT better off charging a low yearly fee then a monthly one. I know a lot of service web sites charge $5.00 to $10.00 (or more) a month. There are, IMO, two problems with this. First off $10 a month times several service web sites adds up to quite a bit of money being spent each month on your virtual existence. Maybe some people can afford this, but I can not and I would guess there are a lot of other who can not too. Secondly it is one more monthly bill to have to remember. Even if it is an auto payment it is still one more thing in the monthly budget.

I would recommend a one or two months free trial and then a reasonable annual fee. If once a year I have to pay $20 to $40 for a service web site that is really helpful, I wouldn’t mind that. In the long run I thing you will do a lot better with volume, RTM seems to have done well with this model.

Would love to see an Android app. I know it’s already been mentioned, but I figure I’ll mention it to show that Android is an important platform to code for! Plus, I imagine that Android users might be more likely to use a web application like threetags than iPhone users…
